The Exchange Visitor Visa (J-1) is a non-immigrant visa issued by our visa sponsor IENA on behalf of the U.S. Department of State that provides opportunities for international candidates looking to gain invaluable life experience in the United States. This could be through teaching, studying, conducting research, demonstrating special skills or receiving on the job training for periods ranging from a few weeks to several years.
As part of your J-1 visa, you are also gifted with a 30-day travel period to explore the various differing landscapes of the vast U S of A.

To help make it as straightforward as possible, Skilled Summers provides all applicants with a detailed step-by-step guide to help you through the entire visa application process. This will be sent to you after your placement at camp has been confirmed.
As well as gathering required documentation and paying a mandatory visa fee directly to the U.S. Department of State, all applicants will be required to attend an ‘interview’ at their local US Embassy (in the UK, this will be at either the US Embassy in London or the Consulate General’s Office in Belfast). You will book a time slot on their website and be expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to your interview time. Most applicants are in and out within an hour but, depending on how busy the embassy is, this could be longer (1-2 hours) so please take this into consideration when travelling to the embassy/consulate.
Any travel costs incurred to/ from the Embassy will be your responsibility.
Unlike many other summer camp organisations, there is no fee payable to us for your visa.
